Contact: Debbie Hayes at (248) 252-5553 or Gene Ledbetter at (313) 534-3758

Ed Meurer, MCP member and avid Car Collector, invited his friends in Motor City Packards to view his ravishing and shiny collection of 90 vintage vehicles, which is now stored entirely under one roof in his 18,000 sq. ft. garage.
This assemblage features 12 Packards, including the one-of-a-kind 1935 V-12 Custom Rolston Convertible Sedan Limousine, shown at the Concourse d’Elegance, Eyes on Design and other car shows. Other attractions are the 1938 right-hand drive Buick, once owned by the Maharashi of India; 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Custom with an Italian-built body and a stainless steel top; a 1953 Chevrolet Rescue wagon, fully equipped with bed and oxygen tank; a 1958 Imperial built for the Eaton family (of Eaton’s Department Store) that was used to chauffeur the Queen of England on her visits to Canada; and rarities such as a 1953 Oldsmobile Fiesta, a 1953 Buick Skylark convertible, and a custom-bodied Chrysler Imperial LeBaron Limousine built for Joseph Kennedy. Also on view are dozens of vintage gasoline pumps, original dealer and showroom signs, and automobile artwork.
This collection is not open to the general public and requires a special invitation for admittance. It was a rare treat for us to get inside.
It has been a few years since our club came to see Ed’s collection, which has grown greatly. Our previous visits were great fun and this was no exception.
It’s hard to imagine Ed Meurer expanding his 75-car collection by over a dozen new acquisitions since the last time we visited his garage in 2003, as it was already difficult enough to squeeze between the cars. But expand he did, adding a 1957 Cadillac Fleetwood Model 60 Special; a 1950 Ford Custom 2-dr; a 1949 Ford “Woody” station wagon; a 1950 Hudson 4-dr Commodore 8; a 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk, a 1957 Mercury station wagon; and THREE Packards: two 1955s –a Caribbean and a hardtop, and a 1948 “Woody” station sedan.
Of course, we of Motor City Packards were glad to see some of our favorites from Ed’s collection on August 7th 2008, including the 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Custom with an Italian-built body and stainless steel top, the one-of-a-kind 935 V-12 Custom Ralston convertible sedan limousine, the 1938 right-hand dive Buick, once owned by the Maharashi of India, and the 1958 Imperial built for the Eaton family (of Eaton’s Department store) that was used to chauffer the Queen of England on her visits to Canada.
Nearly 130 car enthusiasts came to see Ed’s collection and enjoy the delicious ice cream treat.
As a “Thank You” for opening up his garage to us, MCP gave Ed a Ford clock to add to his memorabilia collection.
